(Also called: save, export, copy to computer, new phone, transfer.)
Backups contain your lists and nothing else — they never record whether you contributed (backup files are often shared between people, so they must not carry anyone's payment state; contribution memory lives with your Apple ID instead — see Supporting development).
From the home screen, use the backup / down-arrow control, or Settings → Data & backup → Back up all lists.
Export is one plain-text file you can save to Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, etc.
Restore (same Settings section) reads that file back — including on a new phone after you install Speak List.
The app may gently remind you if you have made many changes without a recent backup; you can snooze a banner or turn backup reminders off in Settings → Data & backup.
Your lists are only as safe as your last backup. There is no Speak List server copy.
Deleting the app deletes your lists with it — they live only on this device, so iOS removes them along with the app (its warning says so, briefly). Back up first; after reinstalling, Restore brings the backup file back. A backup saved to iCloud Drive survives the app being deleted.
New phone
Install Speak List on the new phone.
Settings → Data & backup → Restore.
Pick your backup file (for example from iCloud Drive).
Lists, notes, and reminders that were in the backup come back with it (see reminder rules below).
What restoring does with reminders
A repeating reminder (daily, weekly…) picks up again at its next occurrence.
A one-time reminder whose moment has already passed comes back as a normal item without re-alerting — no surprise alarms from an old backup.
Reminder times stay as written: 8:30 stays 8:30 (wall-clock as stored).
Empty lists survive too
A list with no items yet (for example an empty “Medications” shell you keep ready) is included in backups and comes back on restore. Restoring never lets an empty incoming list overwrite a same-named list that already has items.
