Supporting development

From the Speak List user guide · updated 2026-10-20.

Speak List is free to use today. In Settings you may see optional one-time contribution options to support development. Contributions are not required to keep using the app or to keep your lists. There is no subscription. Do not assume the product will always be free forever — public wording stays in the present tense on purpose.

If you contributed and later moved to a new phone, Settings → Restore a previous contribution brings the thank-you back — Apple remembers the purchase on your Apple ID (each amount can be chosen once; giving again means picking a different amount). Backups do not carry this — only Apple does.

The code line in Settings → About. Every user has one. Before any contribution it's called App code — it simply proves the copy of Speak List is real, for future services on the website (nothing requires it today). After a contribution it becomes the Supporter code. It changes every few minutes on its own — that's normal, not a problem — and tapping it copies it. It contains no personal information: it isn't unique to you, and it expires within minutes. The Tools & support → Ask a question (AI) button includes it in the link automatically, so there's normally nothing to copy or type. The first four characters are plain numbers on purpose — if the phone line ever asks for your code, you only say those four numbers.
